Use of Flax Seed or Flaxseed
Flaxseed can be added to cereals, yoghurt and salads or incorporated into a wide variety of baked goods including breads, bagels and cookies. Although flaxseed can be eaten whole, ground flax seed is easier to digest.
Recent clinical studies suggest significant potential beyond the current, well-documented use of flaxseed. Flax seed preparations have had experimental success as ant carcinogens and in treating lupus nephritis; reducing atherogenic risk in hyperlipemic patients and the use of improving arterial function in obese subjects; and positively affecting platelet composition and function and nutritional health in humans.
Popular herbal use of Flax Seed includes coughs, sore throats, hardening of the arteries, and rheumatoid arthritis. External indications include abscesses, ulcers, and, when mixed with white mustard seeds, a poultice for chest complaints.
