Boiled Linseed Oil
"Boiled" linseed oil, though, is not boiled. The actual boiling of some oils changes their drying characteristics, true. With linseed oil, though, it is the addition of certain solvents that causes linseed oil to dry more quickly, acting as if it were boiled. This makes it a better product for preserving tool handles, decks, and furniture.
Boiled Linseed Oil is also ideal for sealing terracotta tiles and for restoring and enhancing tired wood. The difference between Raw and the Boiled Linseed Oils is that the Raw normally takes longer to dry, as the Boiled has been dried by blowing hot air through the liquid. It is recommended that the boiled is used for woods other than oak. The boiled is also a more attractive darker finish but with a reddish tint. Boiled Linseed Oil also gives a slightly glossy film.
