Benefit of Ground Flax Seed
When taken in ground form, Flax Seeds provide an extra fibre boost, and benefit in the digestive tract in multiple ways. Their flavour is warm and earthy with a subtly nutty edge. While un-ground flaxseeds feature a soft crunch, they are usually not consumed whole but rather ground since this allows for the enhancement of their nutrient absorption. Ground flaxseeds can have a relatively mealy texture with a potential hint of crunch depending upon how fine they are ground.
Because the outer hull of the seed is very difficult to digest, it is generally recommended that you grind or mill the whole flaxseed to get the greatest nutritional benefit. This can be done with your coffee grinder, blender or food processor to a coffee-ground consistency or purchased already in the ground or milled form.
